Maintaining a Ride On Mower

Mower deck:

It is recommended that you clean the mower deck at least twice during the mowing season. Expose the blades of the mower (this will obviously vary depending on the ride on mower you own) and using a hose, spray the decking and blades until they are clear from most of the dirt and grass that has stuck firm.

Scrub the more stubborn dirt and grass off using hot water, a brush and some soap. Once clean, dry it down with an old towel.

Cleaning your ride on mower in this way will not only increase the performance of your mower, you will also help reduce the spread of disease on your lawn as mowing cuts the grass and these "wounds" make the lawn more susceptible to infection.

Spark plugs:

Clean the spark plugs every spring, unless they are looking a little weary, in which case just replace them.

Nuts and bolts:

Although it may seem strange to say, you'll be surprised at how much the continuous vibration of mowing a lawn can loosen nuts and bolts. I suggest a quick check on the nuts and bolts every spring.

Cables:

Examine all cables for any sign of damage, and replace if necessary.

Fuel tank:

If your ride on mower uses petrol or diesel drain the tank at the end of the season. Petrol deteriorates and can damage the inside of the tank.
